Doylestown Hospital again earned national recognition for quality and patient safety in the delivery of stroke and cardiovascular care, including several awards from the American Heart Association and the American College of Cardiology.

Doylestown Hospital received the American Heart Association Achievement Awards for implementing quality improvement measures that ensure cardiovascular patients receive efficient and coordinated care, ultimately leading to more lives saved, shorter recovery times and fewer returns to the hospital.

“Doylestown Hospital is dedicated to helping our patients have the best possible outcome, and implementing these quality programs helps us accomplish this as our teams put proven knowledge and guidelines to work on a daily basis,” said Scott Levy, MD, Vice President and Chief Medical Officer for Doylestown Health. “These guidelines require precision and coordination of the stroke, cardiovascular, emergency department, critical care, hospitalist and pharmacy teams to deliver timely care and improved outcomes for our patients.”

Nearly half of all adults in the U.S. have experienced some form of cardiovascular disease – including heart attack, stroke and heart failure. For patients with conditions that are severe enough to be transported or admitted to a hospital, time is critical.

The American Heart Association’s Mission: Lifeline and Get With The Guidelines programs help reduce barriers to prompt treatment for cardiovascular events. As a participant both Mission: Lifeline/Get With The Guidelines programs, Doylestown Hospital applied for the award recognitions by demonstrating how their organization has committed to improving quality care for patients.

This year, Doylestown Hospital received the following Achievement Awards:

  • Get With The Guidelines® - Stroke Gold Plus with Honor Roll Elite
  • Get With The Guidelines® - Heart Failure Gold Plus with Target: Heart FailureSM Honor Roll
  • Get With The Guidelines® Resuscitation Gold Award (Adult) for treating in-hospital cardiac arrest

For treatment of patients who suffer severe heart attacks:

  • Mission: Lifeline® - STEMI Receiving Center – Gold
  • Mission: Lifeline® - NSTEMI – Gold

From the American College of Cardiology:

  • NCDR Chest Pain – MI Registry™ 2021 Platinum Performance Achievement Award
    • Doylestown Hospital is one of only 212 hospitals nationwide to receive the honor.

“We are pleased to recognize Doylestown Hospital for their commitment to cardiovascular care,” said Lee H. Schwamm, M.D., national chairperson of the American Heart Association’s Quality Oversight Committee and Executive Vice Chair of Neurology, Director of Acute Stroke Services, Massachusetts General Hospital, Boston, Massachusetts. “Research has shown that hospitals adhering to clinical measures through the American Heart Association’s quality improvement programs often see fewer readmissions and lower mortality rates.”
